More than just a hobby

For the women's soccer team of TSV Nellmersbach, soccer is more than just a hobby. It's their passion that binds them together and drives them forward. Within their team, there's a deep friendship that extends far beyond the field, shaping them into an inseparable unit. Their unwavering team spirit is their trademark, strengthening them in tough moments and binding them even closer in successful ones. But above all, it's their unyielding determination to win that drives them to constantly push their limits and strive for success together. Our mission was to express this special passion and connection in our magazine.

Topic

To express the team's cohesion in the cover, we chose an expressive black and white photograph that runs across the front and back side. On the inside we described on which content we have focused on in the magazine.

We used scores from soccer games as chapter numbering. This means our chapters are divided into scores 0:1 to 0:6. The page numbers take up this idea and visually represent the minutes of the game. This means that when you flip through the magazine, the score and the minutes of the game change continuously, just like when watching a soccer game.

90min

Chapter pages

Our chapters are introduced with a double-sided chapter separator. In the upper left corner, there is the chapter number in our highlight color blue for easy navigation. The chapter name is located on the rest of the page, usually in the lower third of the page.

Interviews

To get to know the team better and gain a more personal and deeper insights behind the scenes, we conducted fascinating interviews with some team members.

Photography

Visually, the magazine focuses on three key aspects of soccer. Firstly, the act of playing soccer itself, depicted through action shots captured directly of the game. These images explore the dynamics, speed and power of the sport, providing the magazine with a continuous flow of visuals.

Secondly, other aspects of soccer will be explored through imagery. Unity, friendship, fighting spirit, passion and much more. In terms of color, the use of black and white as well as colorful vibrant, saturated images are used to accentuate and capture the thematic diversity of the sport.

In contrast to the “action shots”, which place a great
focus on people and humanity, still lifes of objects
and sports equipment are used. These take up a
different thematic level and thereby complete the
overall picture. This creates a contrast and a hierarchy
in the magazine, both thematically and visually and in
color, which reflects soccer itself well.

Personal touch

To add a personal touch to the magazine, we have designed removable collectible cards of the players on a double-page. This allows viewers to get to know the entire team in an engaging and individualized way. Furthermore, it serves as an interactive element, creating a small game where players can compete against each other.

Following our team presentation in collectible card format, we have included some favorite quotes from the players in our magazine. This adds another layer to the magazine, reflecting the diverse personalities. Visually arranged in a 'wordcloud' style, we have added appropriate symbols in an illustrative style.

Editorial team

Our editorial team was just as strong a team as the soccer team. We supported each other and were able to learn a lot from each other, whether it was taking photos or creating and developing the magazine.

Digital transmission

As an addition, a prototype transfer from the analogue magazine was converted into digital format. It was necessary to consider how the responsive navigation will change and adapt the content accordingly.

It was particularly enjoyable to devise a concept and to deal with typography and layout principles that not only flow consistently in terms of content but also visually, with distinctive design elements threading through the entire magazine. Equally rewarding was the opportunity to personally experience and get to know the women of TSV Nellmersbach, accompanying them on their journey becoming champions.
